Malaysia in general and the Cyberjaya region in particular has several restaurants featuring the Ayam Penyet (or smashed/squeezed chicken), of which Dapur Penyet is one. This restaurant has been around since 2009, first opening at Maju Junction Mall and slowly expanding to offer its comfort meals and fast food to ten outlets. The delivery menu offers a variety of the signature penyets along with nasi putih or white rice.

"Dapur" is Javanese for kitchen, and from the Dapur Penyet kitchen come a variety of penyet dishes including:

  • Ayam penyet ("smashed fried chicken")
  • Bawal penyet ("smashed fried pomfret")
  • Iga penyet ("marinated fried ribs")
  • Lele penyet ("fried catfish")
    • If you prefer grilled food to fried stuff, look for the "bakar" on the menu. You will find items like

    • Empal bakar (grilled marinated beef)
    • Bawal bakar
    • Iga bakar
    Besides grilled and fried foods, you can also consider trying the "belado" preparations, which are various meats and fish fried with a thick, spicy tomato sauce. If you see "sambal hijau" against a dish, this means it will be served with a spicy green chilli sambal. Also popular is the famous gado gado - mixed vegetables with peanut sauce or the spicy sambal kangkong (tender shoots and leaves of kangkong stir fried with spicy shrimp paste. You can always order rice to go along with any of these mains.
